Drivers Hardship License Law – General – New Jersey

Driving hardship licensing in New Jersey is not addressed by any specific state statutes or departmental administrative regulations. However, it may be posssible for hardship driving privileges to be granted under the discretionary powers of the appropriate authority. An application for such privileges should be prepared to show by affidavit or other signed documents that a legitimate need to driveĀ  for medical, educational. employment, or substance/alcohol treatment purposes exists. Such written evidence of a need to drive may include a physician’s statement, an employer’s statement of current employment, including work schedule and route, proof of enrollment from a school’s principal or registrar’s office, or a statement from a drug or alcohol treatment counselor.
